Disaster response and preparedness

The Ericsson Response program is based on ours previous involvement and experience in various disaster response efforts throughout the world. Ericsson contributes by giving our technology and technical expertise. In partnership with relief organizations, Ericsson Response installs and maintains equipment for voice and data to support the communication needs of the partnering relief organization to enable them to fulfill its mandate. Furthermore, technical expertise is provided to set up the relief agencies existing communication infrastructure within their camp area/project.

The Ericsson Response program is involved in two types of actions in the field; disaster response and disaster preparedness

Disaster response

Our aim is to provide rapid deployment of communications solutions encompassing Ericsson technologies and skills to support and respond to the unique communication challenges of each disaster.

An Ericsson Response Unit consists of equipment and the people to implement and operate it. It works in close cooperation with partner organizations within the United Nations and other humanitarian organization. We aim to improve the relief work by bringing skilled staff and additional technology to be used in the relief operations.

Ericsson Response will only participate in Humanitarian relief operations. Disaster relief operations classified as military or peacekeeping operations will not be a part of the Ericsson Response Program. Humanitarian disasters are normally classified as Natural Disasters* or Complex Emergencies**

Disaster preparedness

Ericsson Response is apart from responding to those in need in time of disasters, also developing disaster preparedness programs around the world in partnership with different aid organizations. Ericsson Response

  • is not involved in any commercial related activities
  • is not related to business contribution; it’s a volunteer organization created to encourage Ericsson employee to contribute in disaster or complex emergency work.
  • is a non political organization and always remain neutral

*Natural Disasters: when a disaster has caused serious casualties or destruction and it is unclear whether sufficient resources are available nationally to meet immediate needs, when the disaster has caused international concern irrespective of the resources available, or where there are catastrophic consequences to the environment.

** Complex Emergencies: when there is the sudden onset or change in intensity of a complex emergency, which is likely to result in a change in the humanitarian coordination structure in-country, particularly when there is inadequate resources in-situ to support the new coordination mechanism.
