Ericsson announced on April 16th that it will divest the CoordCom Emergency Response solution business area to Carmenta AB, a world leader in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), after signing an agreement with the long-standing partner.
The global partnership between Ericsson and Carmenta AB is designed to ensure that Ericsson continues to expand within the Emergency Response segment with the services led Emergency Response Management offering to 112/911 Emergency Response agencies.
The deal means the following:
The partnership is regulated in the agreement READ-2013:374614.
In every emergency call situation, seconds are crucial. With CoordCom, emergency services can save lives by ensuring the right resources are delivered to the right place as fast as possible.Citizens depend on emergency services such as the police, ambulances and fire brigades to respond efficiently and effectively to situations that threaten lives or property.
This requires accurate information and the ability to distribute that information quickly and clearly, not always easy in high-pressure situations.
An effective communication center helps staff to get the right details from often very distressed callers, and then prioritize this information for action.
Making sure the right information gets to the right resources, immediately and throughout an emergency, contributes significantly to a successful outcome and a safer society.

CoordCom is a flexible end-to-end solution that can be integrated into any existing communication infrastructure, enabling a greater return on previous investments.
The system integrates present and future communication standards within radio transmitting, telephony and data communication into one powerful system.
Earlier investments in communication systems, work processes and organizations are enhanced by CoordCom, which lets these systems interact freely.
Ericsson's Public Safety Communication Center - CoordCom - controls and coordinates the entire chain of emergency activities: from taking and identifying an incoming emergency call, to dispatching the right resources, such as police, fire brigade and ambulance, to the emergency site and keeping them updated with real-time information.
CoordCom makes it possible to communicate real-time case information to all involved. The system helps the staff take the right actions in every situation.
It involves:
Automatic call distribution, ensuring a secure, fast call response
Advanced call-taking functions for interviewing, localizing and supporting the caller
Case-specific action plans providing a complete overview of what to do and how to prioritize situations
Digital maps with advanced features to enable fast localization and mobilization of emergency reports
Ongoing overview of resource status and precise location
Automated instructions, where appropriate
Emergency action analysis to improve future action
Integration of all required communication channels
CoordCom's assistant monitoring also allows access to expert assistance. CoordCom provide a framework for handling external interfaces. The framework makes it possible to do adaptations to different external networks without doing the adaptation in CoordCom. The adaptations are instead executed in an adaptor connected to CoordCom and to the customer system. The customer adaptation can be executed by a customer project or a system integrator.
With the possibility to use digital radio as media for communication, both voice and data, a new dimension for resource management opens up. It is possible to connect digital radio groups to a case and a case folder and automatically give the resources and staff members a radio channel to use for communication. The new entity, staff member, makes it possible for the operator to communicate directly to both resources and to the staff members connected to the resource. It is also possible for the operator to communicate directly with the staff member. The operator also has the possibility to connect a temporary staff member to a resource and let him/her be a part of the digital radio group.
CoordCom also provide the possibility to order the ResQMap GIS system produced by Carmenta as well as the VideONet video surveillance system in ECP as optional features.
In CoordCom Digital Radio Interfaces are provided to communicate, both with voice and message communication. This improves the possibility for the Operator to send and receive information direct to Resources and Staff Members.
