Today, after a recent surge in sales, Ericsson claimed the number one position in the IP-DSLAM market in Australia. Ericsson is also number one in Europe.
Globally in IP-DSLAMs, Ericsson is the number two supplier with a 12% market share. There was a 21% quarterly growth between Q4 2004 and Q1 2005, and Ericsson IP-DSLAM shipments in Q1 were larger than all other European vendors combined.
Worldwide IP-DSLAMs port shipments are forecast to overtake ATM-DSLAM port shipments at the end of 2006.
Tony Malligeorgos, Director of Marketing and Business Development for Ericsson Australia said: “The world has changed! Today broadband operators are building high-performance cost-efficient networks that can deliver video, as well as telephony and very fast Internet. IP/Ethernet based Broadband access is recognized as the way forward. To avoid investing in inadequate technologies, the transition from the older ATM DSLAMs to true IP-DSLAMs is happening extremely quickly.”
The rapid deployment of this equipment over the last 12-18 months means that currently an estimated 10% of Australia’s ADSL services are now carried through Ericsson IP-DSLAMs. Operators equipped with these DSLAMs now deliver the fastest commercial broadband services in Australia, with operators achieving speeds of 10-20 mbps using the latest ADSL2+ standard.
Globally, Ericsson is the prime driver in IP and Ethernet based access solutions with more than 60 commercial contracts, enabling advanced services such as on-demand and broadcast IP-TV for large scale network builds by incumbent and competitive carriers.
Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership.
