Today Ericsson released a whitepaper stating that interactive mobile usage will supersede interactive internet usage. Ericsson believes that a mobile’s personalised, anytime and anywhere access will provide greater uptake with tangible business opportunities.
Mr. Kursten Leins, Strategic Marketing Manager, Ericsson Australia says digital media, brand owners and Web 2.0 companies must act promptly.
“Early movers will gain competitive advantage through offering their customers value-added services through the mobile channel. It’s time to act now.”
In the whitepaper, Ericsson named multiple new business opportunities enabled by Mobile Multimedia 2.0.

Industry analyst, Ovum, agrees that the Internet services are not just accessed from PCs anymore.
"Increasingly, people are accessing Internet services from their mobile phones for search, email and instant messaging. But the conditions for mobile Internet usage are becoming much more favourable now; and more than most other Internet services, social networking is an excellent fit with mobile," said Ovum Analyst.
Leins added: ”These new ways of interacting are present also on the web, but the personalisation and always-on capability of a mobile make the business case more tangible than something like a PC-only social networking experience like Second Life or filing on-the-scene breaking news.”
Leins also suggested that new business models will emerge.
“Traditional charging for downloading data or subscription services will still exist, but at the same time we predict that with the presence of new players there will be more ways to clipping the ticket and incentives for uptake. This includes new advertising-supported models where users aren’t charged, very much like commercial TV.
Ericsson believes that the enabler for the massive movement towards interactive mobile usage is due to broadband being available everywhere via technologies such as HSPA, new content and broadcasting, industry wide standardisation and more devices with improved capabilities.
Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
