- Ericsson to boost and implement Evolved HSPA for Digicel
- Digicel is the first operator to commercially launch Evolved HSPA in Trinidad and Tobago
- Ericsson continues to be sole supplier for the operator
Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has been selected by Digicel to deploy an Evolved HSPA network in Trinidad and Tobago. The network features Ericsson’s latest RBS 6000 multi-standard radio base stations. As a result, Digicel can now offer to its 750,000 users broader network coverage and a more enhanced mobile broadband experience. With this contract, Ericsson continues as the sole supplier for the operator.
As the leading communications service provider in Trinidad and Tobago, Digicel is committed to innovate and develop new services with mobile broadband experience and outstanding performance to their customers. The Evolved HSPA network is designed to provide instant and easy access to the internet via mobile phone, tablet or computer. Users will experience speeds up to a maximum 21 Mbps. Actual speeds will vary depending on several factors, including network traffic, device type and location.
Digicel is the first operator to launch Evolved HSPA commercially in Trinidad and Tobago, and will maintain its leadership in network performance by continuing to invest in network upgrades for higher speeds and capacity in order to launch more compelling and differentiated communications multimedia services.
John Delves, CEO of Digicel Trinidad and Tobago, says: “We are very pleased to be the first operator in Trinidad and Tobago launching Evolved HSPA and offering to our customers the ability to enjoy this technology and its services. The Evolved HSPA network provides customers with faster web browsing, faster downloads and video streaming. Our partnership with Ericsson will help us to support the good quality of our services provided in Trinidad and Tobago.”
Clayton Cruz, Director of Mobile Broadband for Ericsson Latin America and Caribbean, says: “We are honored by this important contract in Trinidad and Tobago, with our long time partner Digicel, which reinforce our technology and service leadership in the Caribbean. Ericsson will fully support Digicel in the process of upgrading their network for cutting edge data speeds and quality.”
Under the terms of the contract, Ericsson will also be responsible for a range of professional services such as network design, consulting systems integration, network deployment and customer support.
