Ericsson's MINI-LINK™, a microwave transmission product, will allow the government corporation to expand its network and to improve its high-performance broadband service, thereby upgrading the quality of its communication services.
Patrick Truong, Senior Telecommunications Director at Hydro-Québec, says: "We needed to extend and modernize our existing microwave-based communications systems to meet the new traffic demands. We feel that Ericsson's MINI-LINK meets the complexity, high reliability and fault tolerance our operations require. It also provides a platform for flexible, secure, scalable and cost effective wireless operations," he added.
Mark Henderson, President & CEO, Ericsson Canada, says: "MINI-LINK is well suited for situations where great distances and inhospitable climate make communications difficult, allowing companies to reduce cost and increase the level of service to their users. We are confident that, through our strong local presence and expertise we can help Hydro-Québec meet its future expansion and performance requirements."

About Ericsson's MINI-LINK product
Designed to be installed almost anywhere reliable transmission is required, MINI-LINK is a cost-effective, point-to-point microwave communications system optimized for the cost-effective and fast rollout of mobile broadband. To date, over 1.4 million MINI-LINK nodes have been deployed in more than 125 countries, giving Ericsson more than a 40 per cent share of the global market.
The latest version, which transfers data at rates up to 155 Mb/s, allows optimization on both network and site level up to 25%, can be configured remotely, and provides ten times the aggregated transport capacity of current systems. MINI-LINK products are based on open standards, making them fully compatible with networks from any supplier (supporting all existing technologies: PDH, SDH, Ethernet and ATM); comprising increased capacity, switching, and enhanced O&M and QoS.
