Ericsson and Rogers Celebrate Award winning website for FIFA World Cup site

Ericsson and its supplier Zooma, have been awarded the Web Marketing Association's 2006 WebAward for Best Events Website for its work on the Rogers' FIFA World Cup site.

The award was presented at the Web Marketing Association's 10th Annual WebAward Competition. Winning sites were selected based on seven criteria: design, ease of use, copywriting, interactivity, use of technology, innovation and content.

The Rogers FIFA World Cup Website, at www.rogers.com/soccer2006, was designed and produced by Zooma, under the direction of Ericsson, for Canadian telecommunications operator Rogers Wireless. Through the site, Rogers provided its wireless subscribers with near real time SMS and video alerts from the World Cup along with downloadable ring tunes, directly to their mobile phones.
"Working with Ericsson, we designed a site that would be very appealing to World Cup fans, while driving traffic to the Rogers Website," says Anders Björklund, managing director of Zooma. "It was a great pleasure to be part of this innovative marketing initiative."

The site proved popular with Canadians, with thousands of users signing up to receive alerts on their favourite teams.  Swedish-based Zooma designed the Rogers FIFA World Cup site, while Ericsson provided the hosted content and alerts platform.

"Ericsson is always on the quest for novel and engaging ways to show Canadians how wireless can be used," said Nikos Katinakis, VP, Sales, Ericsson in Canada. "As Rogers' long-standing telecommunications supplier in Canada, we had the privilege of working closely with Rogers and Zooma on the conception and execution of this idea. It is gratifying to see the team's work recognized in this way."

Produced by the Web Marketing Association, the WebAwards seek to set the standard of excellence for Website development, and name the best Websites in 96 industries. During this year's competition, more than 2,300 sites from 35 countries were evaluated in 95 industry categories.

The Rogers FIFA World Cup site has also been nominated for   Swedish Design Award (Svenska Designpriset) in the category of Web Advertising.
