Description
The MicroTCA™ power module is intended for use in applications based on the PICMG® Micro Telecommunications Computing Architecture (MicroTCA™) specification which defines the requirements for a system that uses PICMG Advanced Mezzanine Cards (AdvancedMCs) connected to a common backplane.
The power module comprises a complete solution ready to be mounted directly into the sub-rack. It provides power conversion from a -48 Vdc input source to 16 independent channels of 12 V for Payload power and 3.3 V for Management power. The design is based on a high degree of silicon integration and advanced technologies for energy management and communication within the system.
The DC/DC conversion element uses synchronous rectification and digital control to achieve very high efficiency, minimizing power losses and component stress, and in combination with the excellent thermal management it gives the power module very good reliability performance over the full temperature range. These attributes make the power module particularly suited for use in telecommunications and enterprise computer network equipment. In addition to applications in the communications industry, the power module is also suitable for applications targeting military, medical and industrial markets.
