We have a passion for technology. We have over 33,000 granted patents, comprising one of the industry's strongest portfolios. Our global team of researchers is constantly improving on today’s technology and creating the breakthroughs that will shape tomorrow.

A connected future – with the next 3 billion users and more than 50 billion connected devices – is going to need better networks and greater capacity. We continue to lead the mobile broadband market with advances in HSPA, LTE and future technologies, while also improving voice quality and network performance.

Broadband is changing our world for the better. High-speed access, optical transport and transmission, and mobile backhaul are all essential parts of that change. Research in this area includes network architecture and topologies, edge functionality, fixed-mobile convergence, microwave and fiber-optic links.

Telecom is opening new ways for people to communicate, work and entertain themselves. Subscribers want access to movies, music, games and other content wherever they are. Our research is finding new ways to use multimedia, and making sure new services can be introduced smoothly and quickly.

Our work aims primarily to enhance products and solutions in Ericsson’s Radio, Cloud, OSS/BSS and Managed Services portfolios. The technology challenges we focus on are data analytics in OSS/BSS, decision support systems, mission-critical cloud and the internet of things in the context of operation centers for telecom operators. An important aspect of our research is looking into what these new technologies mean for people.

The world is going wireless. To make mobile broadband ubiquitous and even more efficient, we are carrying out research into radio access, advanced receivers and antenna systems and technologies, and propagation. The leaders in HSPA and LTE, we are also inventing and developing technologies that will transform tomorrow.

All network traffic is migrating to the internet, and that is changing the rules of the game. Our research in this area covers technologies and network architecture for IP-based networks. We focus on both slashing the cost per bit and providing added-value functions that make services even more attractive and reliable for providers and users.

Communication technology is becoming more service driven, with complex networks including products from several suppliers. We conduct thorough research into business models, services concepts, delivery processes and tools, services engineering and quality.

With so much of our lives going online, people need to trust the networks, devices and services they are using. We are protecting today's systems and developing the solutions to protect tomorrow's.

Modern information and communication technologies (ICT) are an essential part of a more sustainable future. ICT can help reduce the world’s carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption, and contribute to combatting global climate change. Our research focuses on quantifying such benefits, keeping track of our own emissions and ensuring that the electromagnetic exposure levels from our products and network solutions are below established safety limits. We also provide public information on electromagnetic safety and support independent research to get further knowledge about radio waves and health.
