Ericsson Solutions at CeBIT 2007

At CeBIT 2007 Ericsson puts a focus on Full Service Broadband, Multimedia (IPTV and Mobile TV) and Enterprise. You can find us on the open-air site at stand K05.

There you will experience the latest advancements in fixed and mobile broadband, transport networks (optical and microwave), IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem), as well as service enablers and new multimedia applications that allow consumers and business clients to experience all the benefits of Broadband Anywhere and IP-Convergence.

These solutions are mainly targeted at fixed and mobile operators, service providers, enterprise customers and the media industry.

HSPA (Mobile Broadband)
Ericsson will showcase HSDPA with a downlink data throughput of up to 7.2 Mbit/s and HSUP with uplink speeds of up to 1.4 Mbit/s. The first mobile providers in Europe already offer this Ericsson solution to their subscribers, which makes HSPA - the mobile broadband - a full-scale alternative or extension to DSL. Ericsson also offers a HSPA Embedded Module to notebook manufacturers.

EDA (Ethernet DSLAM)
The change from DSL Access to Ethernet reduces cost of data transmission and makes DSL available in areas that so far were white spots in many countries’ broadband map. The modular Ericsson EDA portfolio provides scalability that allows cost-effective roll-out of DSL in sparsely populated areas. Ericsson provides EDA for ADSL, ADSL2+ and VDSL2.

IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem)
IMS brings all the benefits of increased bandwidth to residential and business customers. IMS is an important component of gradual migration to all-IP networks. Not only does it allow for faster and more cost efficient introduction of new services. Customers can also use the same contents with the same familiar customer interface, no matter if the data is transmitted over DSL, mobile Broadband or WLAN and no matter what device is at hand. For the first time, whiteboarding can be used on both PC and mobile phone. We also present other multimedia applications such as convergent communications solutions (CMS) and interactive IPTV. Thanks to IMS based IP Centrex, small enterprises and freelancers no longer need their own PBX. Service providers or network operators can supply all respective features.

Interactive IPTV
To increase the market potential of IPTV, it has to offer more than cable or satellite TV. Ericsson presents new interactive applications between TV, notebook and mobile phone, which demonstrate the benefits of IMS based IPTV. Whether you share TV Content with others regardless where they are and which device they use, chat, vote or approve your childrens’ request to watch a video on demand on your mobile while at work. Interactivity is more than a buzzword. It is going to change the way we use television.

Interactive Mobile TV
Mobile TV is also moving towards interactivity.  The first steps are fast channel switching like on a remote control and an electronic program guide that includes a vast number of Unicast TV offers and on-demand contents. Chatting and voting are simplified and can be used in real time by simply pushing a button. Ericsson will showcase examples like the Me On TV solution by Endemol and Ericsson. These live projects we conducted with TV stations and producers during the last few months.

MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services)
MBMS is a broadcast that can be integrated into existing mobile networks by software upgrades. IT does not require an additional stand-alone TV network. The combination of MBMS and Unicast over HSPA allows providers to unite the best of both worlds – broadcast and mobile phone. It offers high picture quality and capacity to deliver TV broadcasts like DVB-H and DMB, as well as interactivity and almost unlimited availability of live and on demand contents anytime anywhere.

Femto
Femto is a small “mobile phone modem” - actually a tiny base station - that initiates a pico mobile cell at home. It allows several users to use their mobile phones at lower costs, higher quality and lower transmitter power than today.

AMR-Wideband
In 2006 Ericsson and T-Mobile conducted a field trial with consumers and Enterprise customers of the new voice codec that allows for better voice quality than in fixed networks. AMR-Wideband is going to be commercially available in 2008.

Ericsson One Phone – MX-ONE
In the Enterprise sector, IP-Telephony does not only cut costs, but it also offers new applications that increase employee efficiency and make the life of office and field staff a lot easier. Ericsson One Phone allows you to reduce telephone costs by up to 40 per cent. The mobile phone is integrated as a fully functional extension of the company PBX. It can be based on both Ericsson’s MX-ONE and new Ericsson Mobility Servers (EMS).

Other highlights include

  • GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network)
  • IMT (IP Multimedia Telephony)
  • EMS: next Generation of IP based mobile communication for SMEs.
  • M-Health (mobile patient monitoring)

Please contact us in advance, if you are interested in one-to-one talks or demonstrations of one or more issues.
