This year's Developer Days event in Taiwan on November 30 put mobile multimedia and marketing in the spotlight. James Sha, head of Ericsson Mobility World Taiwan, says there is great interest in this area from all parties: operators, content providers and application developers.

Sha says the event provided a platform for local developers, operators and the media to learn what is motivating and relevant in the Taiwanese market. "You could say this is a follow-up to last year's successful Developer Days focusing on MMS. This year we took the next step and looked at enabler technologies such as MMS Push Engine and Automatic Device Configuration (ADC). Our session on Ericsson's Internet Payment eXchange (IPX) was especially interesting for media and content providers," he says. IPX makes the billing process easier for operators and lets content providers charge the end user directly for their services.

More than 130 participants attended the Developer Days event, including the Industrial Economic and Knowledge Center, part of Taiwan's government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute. This important institute for developers supports the advancement of mobile internet services in Taiwan. The Developer Days event acted as a bridge between developers and the institute, helping open doors to international sales strategy and planning. Sha says: "Of course, we focused on technology, but at the same time we offered the audience a market outlook. This go-to-market insight is essential for developing applications in Taiwan today."

A survey of participants at the Developer Days event showed that 100 percent answered positively as to whether they would like to attend a similar event next year.
