Are you looking to make your existing applications mobile? Ericsson's Service Layer Overview course will remove the mystery behind the supporting technologies and professional services required to bring your ideas to fruition.

Wednesday, December 14, 2005

If you are new to mobile telecoms but proficient in multimedia and applications development or if you are new to the telecoms industry, the Service Layer Overview course is a terrific opportunity to learn about modern data service networks, mobile telecoms and standardization – and the synergies, fusion and symbiotic relationships that form when making data mobile.

Ericsson Education is offering a course that looks at both the technical and business aspect of Service Layer solutions. The course is useful for both technical and non-technical people looking for an overview of the Service Layer.

The course covers the Service Layer and the design and implementation of service solutions using standard technologies, as well as Ericsson products and professional services. Participants learn about the various technologies, standards and products involved through group exercises in which they will design a simple end-to-end solution.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to do the following:

  • List the main drivers behind the move to services in the telecom industry.
  • Identify the different stakeholders and operator roles in the Service Layer and their key needs and challenges.
  • Briefly explain the purpose of the main standards driving the development of the Service Layer.
  • Identify the use of standard technologies, protocols and terminal technologies to realize an end-to-end solution.
  • Provide an overview of Ericsson's strategy for developing a customer service network using Service Layer architecture, technologies and professional services which have been successfully deployed with operators and partners across the industry.
  • Provide examples of successful end-user applications and the possible business models in the service creation environment.
  • Provide an overview of common service enablers and Ericsson product offerings.
  • List the main business and technical issues relating to managing Service Layer solutions – such as charging, provisioning, and O&M – and describe how these can be provided in a common way to help build future-proof networks.
  • Briefly describe the Ericsson Service Layer offerings in terms of products and professional services which are offered to our partners and customers.
  • Select and use the various technologies, standards and products to realize a simple conceptual end-to-end solution.

This course is offered in two formats. The first, presenting all the materials over four days; the second, as two separate courses – one focusing on the business aspects of the Service Layer, the other on the technical aspects. A general knowledge of mobile telecommunications and internet technologies is preferred but not mandatory.

The course is offered by Ericsson Education in Dublin, Ireland, several times a year. Alternatively, Ericsson Education can deliver the course in your country. For further information, please contact your local Ericsson Office or email .
