Venturus is a Brazilian company focusing on software development. It was founded in 1995 by Ericsson, and is one of Ericsson’s partners and preferred suppliers.

Antonio Ribeiro Neto, CEO of Venturus, says the company is particularly strong in two areas: software for embedded systems and software for complex architecture.

Almost all of Venturus’ 420 employees work in the city of Campinas in the state of São Paulo.

Mauricio B. Fernandes, account manager for Ericsson at Venturus, says the company’s largest customers are Ericsson and Sony Ericsson. For Ericsson, the company has mainly been involved in the wireline segment, such as AXE development, and for Sony Ericsson in the development of embedded software for handsets.

Because of Venturus’ history, Fernandes says partnering with Ericsson was a natural choice. “But more so for technology reasons,” he says. “Part of our strategy is to be strong in technology, always keeping an eye on the future, such as the IMS evolution. This makes Ericsson a natural choice. And we are very pleased with all the know-how we have acquired through this partnership.”

Romualdo Barros, manager of IMS Expert Center at Ericsson Brazil, says working with Venturus has been very productive. “Not only for the good ideas for new IMS applications they have, but also because of their high professional level and commitment,” he says. “Venturus is among our first affiliated partners, and we’ll keep supporting them on both technical and market actions.”

There is a strong trend in the market towards IMS, Ribeiro says. “As a company, we are eager to work with IMS software design, particularly in the telecom area, and we now have a strong focus on developing applications that operators can deploy on top of IMS infrastructure.”

Ribeiro says he is convinced IMS will be a key driver for operators in the future for two main reasons: cost reduction and time-to-market. To be competitive, he says, operators need to deploy new services at the lowest possible cost and as quickly as possible.

Addressing the developer community, Ribeiro stresses that IMS is a cornerstone in the new converging telecom landscape. “IMS ensures non-proprietary standardized solutions, minimizing cost for operators. And we definitely recommend developers to embrace IMS,” he says. “It represents a sea of opportunities, making it possible to combine a lot of different technologies, such as fixed, mobile, IP and multimedia. Additionally, by building on IMS you can develop new services quickly without detailed knowledge of the underlying architecture.”
