At a recent event in Stockholm, Sweden, Ericsson presented a broad portfolio to mobile application developers, including live beta testing, open APIs and go-to-market support.

Representatives from across the mobile application ecosystem were on hand to learn how Ericsson can help with everything from experimental beta testing to commercial launch in live networks. Over 100 application developers, businesses and university representatives attended an event in the Kista Science Tower, where Ericsson Developer Connection and Ericsson Labs presented a combined portfolio.

Audience reaction was positive and most of the attendees were keenly interested in learning more about the benefits of partnering with Ericsson.

Carl Skedinger, application developer at Oracle in Sweden, who attended the seminar, says that even though he has worked with Ericsson before, it was still interesting to learn more about how the company is bundling new services together.

Participants were able to see first-hand demonstrations of bundled applications that included integrations of maps and MMS services with familiar social media platforms.

Pål Berg, Chief Technology Officer at mBricks – a Norwegian-based company that helps software providers mobilize their applications – says that his customers are especially interested in integrating IMS capabilities into existing applications.

Tor Björn Minde of Ericsson Labs and Rolf Carlsson from Ericsson Developer Connection showed how the company is addressing the different needs of developers. Minde says that Ericsson Labs’ goal is to open up and simplify the work of experimental beta developers while Carlsson says that Ericsson Developer Connection focuses on developing applications based on commercially available products. Both stressed that Ericsson’s offering is about opening up the telecom world to application innovators.

Peter Sandberg, technology blogger and entrepreneur says that mobile application developers need as much support as possible. He says that with so few large companies in the ecosystem, Ericsson’s broad offering of both experimental beta testing and commercial launch support is a unique advantage.

“Java is a common denominator,” says Dr. Alex Jonsson, partner at the mobile application development company, Mobile Sorcery. “Ericsson has an advantage here over its competitors,” he says. The seminar in Stockholm gave attendees a preview of what Ericsson will be showing at the upcoming JavaOne conference June 2-5 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, USA.
