Ericsson Mobile Application Awards 2002 is an international competition sponsored by Ericsson in association with First Tuesday Zurich. The object of the competition is to find and reward the best market-ready mobile applications. Those services that add value, are convenient to use and make work and daily life easier and more effective will be widely adopted.

In all, twelve finalists will be selected to compete against each other in four categories: Best Gaming Application, Best Mobile Entertainment Application (other than Gaming), Best Corporate Solution, and Best Information Service.

During the month of October, developers from around the world are invited to submit information on their applications. Each application will be screened during the first two weeks of November. The top three finalists in each category will then be notified by November 15. They will also be invited to the finals and awards ceremonies in Zurich on December 3, 2002. Each finalist will have five minutes to present his or her application. Once every application has been presented, the audience and an expert jury will vote for the best mobile applications of 2002. Every presentation must be made live. The decision of the expert jury accounts for only one-half of the overall vote. The other half will be decided by the audience, which votes via SMS.

Besides winning attractive prizes, the finalists will have the chance to present their applications to an expert jury made up of representatives from mobile network operators. To date, top managers from Swisscom, sunrise and D2 Vodafone have confirmed their participation. In addition, each finalist will get strong media exposure, and the winners of each specific category will be allowed to use the title ?Winner of the Ericsson Mobile Application Awards 2002? in their future marketing activities.
