A Wi-Fi (WLAN) solution, created in cooperation with Ericsson Mobility World Croatia's partner Wave-tech, was recently introduced into the Croatian market.

Tuesday, April 22, 2003
Croatian mobile operator VIPnet chose Ericsson's Wi-Fi solution last month for its mobile network. The solution was created in cooperation with Wave-tech (AiM), an Associate partner of Ericsson Mobility World Croatia.

This is the first integration of Wi-Fi technology with the public telecommunications infrastructure in Croatia. VIPnet's users will soon be able to access different data networks, such as the Internet or intranets, via the globally accepted Wi-Fi standard. This service, called VIPonline.airlink, will be introduced where there is a need for fast, wireless data transfer.

Ericsson's solution was chosen despite strong competition. Key factors to winning this deal were Ericsson's strategic approach to the development of mobile networks and the competency of Wave-tech's experts. The solution is attractive to operators because of its flexible and scalable capacity and functions. Roaming and billing (pre-paid and post-paid) included in the solution allow the provision of the service to users in a fast and simple way.

Wave-tech, which is committed to wireless software development to meet the demand for new mobile applications, supplies wireless software to the European telecom market.

This latest success for Ericsson comes from its recognition of the market needs and from having a reliable local partner, Wave-tech. The result is the successful completion of the first phase of this important project.
