Multi Mediation is a flexible, yet very powerful billing mediation system that assists operators in managing charging-related information for file based, event and online mediation. Typically the system is placed between the operators' communication network and the business support network, with the possibility to use distributed agents and collectors in the network. Multi Mediation is designed to enable file-based, event and online mediation for charging of voice, SMS, MMS, data, content, services and applications deployed in the operator-controlled domain (i.e. within the walled garden).

Multi Mediation collects usage data from any content, service or application deployed in the network, processes it, and then distributes it to any billing system or charging system. Existing billing systems can now be used to charge for new applications, services, and content.

Ericsson Multi Mediation allows you to use either the Parlay Charging API (online mediation) or Detail Records (file-based and event mediation).

Detail records are used to provide a detailed log of the usage of a service or an application. The records are collected by a mediation system, such as Ericsson Multi Mediation 3.0. The mediation system will process this data and send the result as records to a billing system or other types of down-stream systems. The detail records are mainly used for charging, but can also be used for other purposes, such as statistics.

The records shall contain information that is sufficient to produce a chargeable record. The records are normally stored in files and collected by the mediation system at certain intervals.

The fact that Ericsson is the market leader in realtime charging and mediation solutions, and also that standardized APIs are used when possible, guarantees a huge number of operators supporting your application, services and content.
