MPS SDK contains the following parts:

  • MPS Emulator
  • Java Mobile Location API (JML API)
  • Example Applications
  • Documentation
  • Ericsson MPC Map Tool

MPS Emulator
The communication between an application and GMPC relies on the Mobile Location Protocol (MLP) or the Mobile Positioning Protocol (MPP). With the MPS Emulator you are able to set up your own local positioning system. The MPS Emulator runs on a web server, and is a valuable tool for testing your application. When loaded with a mobile network that you create with Ericsson MPC Map Tool, it will give you an emulated positioning answer from an area of your choice.

JML API
The JML API is designed to give the location of a phone as fast and easy as possible. All data parsing as well as requests sent and received over the Internet will be done for you. By using this Java-based class library you will be able to develop positioning applications with little or no knowledge about the protocols involved.

Example Application
Java examples that make use of the JML API are included in MPS SDK. The examples will help you jump-start the development of your own applications, by showing how basic tasks are performed. You are welcome to use code from the examples in your own application.

Documentation
MPS SDK comes with documentation that includes:

  • An introduction to the MPS SDK package
  • Java doc for JML API
  • Instructions on how to use the MPS Emulator
  • Instructions on how to use the Example Application and the Example Application source code.
  • Information about the Mobile Positioning Protocol and Mobile Location Protocol - the supported interfaces between an LBS application and GMPC.
  • Licenses

Ericsson MPC Map Tool
A mobile network consists of a large amount of cells. The size of one cell can be from less than 100 meters in radius in dense urban areas to several kilometres in rural areas. With MPC Map Tool you can create your own network based on a scanned or vectored map of your area. MPC Map Tool will generate the mobile network for you, ready to use for testing your positioning application with the MPC Emulator. MPC Map Tool is not needed to be able to develop positioning applications, but it will help you test your application in a more realistic environment. Since the application only benefits Windows users, there is a package that can be downloaded separately from the MPS SDK package. The MPC Map Tool has no value without the MPS Emulator.

Support
Extensive reference and support documents are supplied with the MPS SDK. We have included the most frequently asked questions in the FAQ section on this site. If you are still unable to find the information you are looking for, you are welcome to contact our support.
