This tutorial will walk you through the different steps involved in developing a Parlay X application using JAX-RPC, which comes bundled with Sun's Java web services developer pack (JWSDP). By the end, you will understand how to develop a simple SMS application using Parlay X services exposed by any service provider or network operator.
Parlay X is a set of standardized web services that provides developers with high-level access to the telecom functionality available in an operator's domain. The telecom functionality includes short messaging, multimedia messaging, call-control capabilities, terminal location and status and so on.
The standards Parlay X and Parlay/OSA are defined by the
Parlay Group, which is a consortium of different telecom vendors, network operators and IT vendors. Ericsson, as one of the Parlay/OSA and Parlay X vendors, provides the implementation of Parlay/OSA and Parlay X standards in the form of the Ericsson Network Resource Gateway.
