Ribbonet Air Blown Fiber System

Ericsson’s Ribbonet® Air-Blown Fiber (ABF) system has been developed specifically to provide fast, efficient and flexible fiber distribution in the drop network.

Description

The system is recommended for medium to long-distance drop networks where substantial cost savings can be achieved by reducing the number of splice points and by installing fiber incrementally when needed. The technology also enables future expansion of the network without costly additional civil works. The Ribbonet® system, consisting of ducts forming the infrastructure into which the fiber units are blown, can be used outdoors, indoors and underground, as well as in aerial applications. The Ribbonet® system consists of Air-blown Fiber, ducts, duct joints and accessories and an Ericsson patented lightweight air blowing tool.

Pre-connected Air-Blown Fiber, RDJ XXX+ and NTM 502+   Data sheet
Pre-connected Air-Blown Fiber (ABF) consisting of fibers encapsulated in a round multi-layer, high-performance coating. The connected ABF is delivered on lightweight reels, optimized for use with the Ribbonet® fiber blowing tool. The fiber is made of highly bend resistant G657A2 fibers. The pre-connected ABF is available in configurations from 1 to 4 fibers.

Tight Protected microducts for direct-buried installation

Ducts composed of 5/3.5 mm microducts with a heavy-duty HDPE sheath that enables direct-buried installation. To prevent water diffusion when permanently submersed, a moisture barrier of aluminum foil is wrapped around the microducts. The microducts have a solid, low-friction inner surface coating for best installation performance.

Ducts composed of  5/3.5 mm microducts with a heavy-duty HDPE sheath that enables direct-buried installation. To facilitate installation, these ducts are provided without a metallic moisture barrier. The microducts have a solid, low-friction inner surface coating for best installation performance.

Self-suppporting dielectric microducts for aerial installation. Lightweight to ensure quick and easy installation. The tubes include a stabilized sheath to resist the aging effects of UV radiation. The system and include both 5mm and 10mm ducts to enable both air-blown fiber and micro cables to be installed in the same duct assembly.

Thick walled microduct assemblies

The thick-walled microduct bundles consist of a number of micro ducts with an inner low friction surface that enables installation of airblown fiber units or fiber optic micro cables such as the Ericsson Ribbonet® and the Ericsson Micronet systems. The thick inner wall of the microducts allow for installation directly into the ground without the need for additional protection. Several types exist for all kind of instalaltion environments, e.g. traditional trenching and micro trenching. In addition, hybrid duct assemblies for a combined infrastructure with air-blown fiber and micro cables are available.

Indoor duct 3mm

Microducts for indoor installation, 3 mm Standard Grade, MPB 302 42+   Data Sheet
This series of duct assemblies consist of ultra slim micro-ducts (3 mm). The slim design enables installation virtually in any existing risers in Multi Dwelling Units.

Successfully installing a system for Air-Blown Fiber also requires components for splicing microducts, as well as protective closures for duct jointing and branching.

Straight Connector, MPB 306 01+ 
Microduct snap-in connectors for quick and easy splicing of microducts. The body has a transparent window for easy fault location during installation. The connectors are available in different sizes from 3 mm to 12 mm microducts.

Gas Block Connector, MPB 306 02+ 
Gas block microduct snap-in connectors, normally used between indoor and outdoor environments to prevent air flow that may result in condensed water getting into in ducts. After cable installation, the connector can be gas sealed by turning a ring on the body, which is transparent for easy fault location during installation. The connectors are available in different sizes from 5 mm to 12 mm microducts.

Straight Connector, MPB 306 05+
These connectors are used for duct splicing applications when using thick walled ducts. They are of heavy duty design to withstand installation directly into the ground. The connectors are available in different sizes from 7mm to 14mm microducts. 

End-stop Connector, SXA 113 9137+  
Microduct snap-in end stop connectors for permanent or temporarily sealing of unused microducts to prevent water and dust from getting into the duct. The connectors are available in different sizes from 5 mm to 12 mm microducts. 

End-stop Connector, MPB 306 06+
These microduct snap-in end stop connectors are designed for thick walled ducts. The connectors are available in 7 and 14 mm versions.

Reduction Connector, MPB 306 03+
Microduct reduction connectors are used when joining two sections of microducts with different diameter. The connector is available in  versions for 3/2-5/3.5 mm, 7/3.5-5/3.5 mm, 12/10-10/8 mm, and 14/10-12/10 mm microducts.

Microduct End Caps, NDK 121 03
End caps for 5/3.5 mm microducts to prevent dirt and moisture entering the tubes. The end cap also locks the installed fiber to prevent it from moving in the tube. End caps should be used for all open ends in microduct installations. The end cap is made of rubber and has a slit that allows the fiber unit to pass through.   

 


Duct Joint Closure, NDE 451 25+   Data sheet
A series of straight duct closures for quick and easy cold seal installation without the need for heat. The closure is available in versions for 1-26xØ5 mm microducts or 1-7xØ10 or 12 mm microducts.

Seal Kit Duct Splicing, NDE 451 40/2   Data sheet
Flexible kit including materials and tools for jointing, branching and mid-span of microducts/multiducts. A water sealing cloth is used for sealing and strong and flexible PVC tape provides mechanical protection.

Easy-to-use branch-off closure, primarily intended for Ericsson's Aerial Air Blown Fiber System, that can also be used for undergound branching of ducts. The closure uses "gel-seal" technology for quick and easy installation.

Electrical Bonding Tape, NTM 504 39
Used when splicing ducts wit aluminum moisture barrier is chosen. The tape provides a galvanic connection between duct sections in joints.  The tape is delivered in a package with 10 rolls. Galvanic connection is required to use the metal sheath for tracing purposes.
