The Multimedia technologies research area develops new multimedia technologies required in current and emerging multimedia services targeting enriched person-to-person communication and advanced multimedia content for consumption. Areas included are media compression (speech coding, audio coding, video coding, image coding, and so on), media processing (3D audio, 3D graphics, quality enhancement, quality estimation, image processing, and so on) and media transport protocols for both real-time communication services (VoIP, rich telephony, and so on) and content services (mobile TV, IPTV, music download, and so on). A key part is the prototyping of the mentioned multimedia services on several target devices - for example, mobile terminals and devices targeting the home environment.
As a research engineer in this area your tasks will be related to multimedia services for communication or content consumption in a community environment. You could study multimedia services from a user experience and implementation point of view, and implement prototypes of the services in suitable devices and environments. You could also perform specialized research in one of the multimedia technology areas mentioned above to enable new and enhanced multimedia services. The work will require a lot of cooperation with different Ericsson units, as well as with external partners and customers.
