Electronic messaging is destined to become the next major growth area in the New Telecoms World. Within a few years, more messages will be flying around global communication networks than direct, voice-to-voice communications.
Ericsson has developed a new messaging solution, called Messaging-over-IP, that uses Internet technology to handle, in an integrated and easy-to-use manner, all types of messages, including voice, video and text. In this article, the authors outline how Ericsson’s Messaging-over-IP solution combines advanced off-the-shelf technology and industry- standard Internet protocols and interfaces with the robustness of carrier-class telecommunications networking expertise, putting messaging firmly in the public network environment and offering a messaging strategy that supports the convergence of wireline, wireless, telecommunications and IP services.
