Michael Begley, who joined Ericsson in 1993, is senior specialist in O&M and telecommunications management systems. He has a Bachelor of Engineering degree in computer engineering from the University of Limerick, Ireland. During his 11 years with Ericsson Systems Exptertise in Athlone, Ireland, he has worked with narrowband, broadband and IP systems. At present he works with the end-to-end design and management of Ericsson’s broadband access solution and the transition from TDM to IP networks that support the delivery of traditional voice applications and multi-media services.
Michael Bjärhov worked at Ericsson between 1975 and 1979 in various fixed- network development projects. In late 1994 he returned to Ericsson to head up the development of GSM/DECT interworking. In 1996 he was put in charge of indoor GSM solutions. During 2001-2002 he managed the Asia Pacific technical sales support organization in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2003 he was made manager of Ericsson’s next-billion user program, which pushes for cost-effective solutions that enable operators to profitably address low-spending subscribers. He is currently the director of business strategy for GSM at Business Unit Access. Michael holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden.
Araceli Calle joined Ericsson Spain in 2000 to work with Mobile-PBN network design for Gb, circuit switching, corporate access and the service network. She is currently the technical coordinator of the Mobile-PBN service network area. She holds an M.S. in telecommunication engineering from Madrid University, Spain.
Tomas Edler joined Ericsson in 1990 to work with RBS power supplies. From there he moved to transceiver and RBS system design. In the years since he has held numerous positions in the areas of D-AMPS, PDC, WCDMA RBS and RAN system design. He is currently a member of RAN Systems and Technology where he works with RAN energy efficiency and evolution aspects, such as coverage and capacity. Tomas holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
Alberto Fernandez Bravo joined Ericsson Global Services’ New Solutions and Services group in 2000. He is currently a member of the IP infrastructure development unit where he serves as senior network designer in the Mobile-PBN project and is responsible for IP backbone design. He is Juniper Networks Internet Specialist (JCNIS) no. 568. He holds a degree in telecommunications engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain.
Christer Friberg worked briefly at Ericsson in 1984 before deciding to continue with his studies in 1985. Upon his return, he worked for a number of years with the development of new telecommunications platforms. In 1996, he moved to GSM, where he has since held positions in GSM radio access network (RAN) R&D, product marketing, and technical sales support. One of his current assignments is to position and explain the development of the RAN element of Ericsson’s Expander solutions. He holds an M.S. in electronic engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
Susanne Lundberg joined Ericsson in 1987 to work with cellular system design, beginning with AMPS/D-AMPS. In 1998, she began focusing on environmental issues associated with UMTS, and at present she is the director of product-related regulation and environmental affairs at Research and Design, Technology Management. She holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Linköping, Sweden.
Niclas Medman, who joined Ericsson in 1998, currently serves as marketing manager at Business Unit Systems where he is in charge of marketing Ericsson Instant Talk—Ericsson’s push to talk solution. He has also held various sales and marketing positions, including a two-year assignment as local business manager within Ericsson Telecom S.A de C.V in Mexico. In addition, he has worked with tactical and strategic sales support, price management, and product marketing. He holds an M.S. in industrial economics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.
Mounir Merhi joined Ericsson in 1999 to work with various GSN verification activities. In 2001, he joined Mobile-PBN and has since been active in a wide range of related network design and coordination activities. He has also developed and held many Mobile-PBN network design courses around the world. He is currently senior network designer and the operational product manager (OPM) of Mobile-PBN. As such, he provides support for Ericsson Market Units and takes part in Mobile-PBN marketing activities. Among other things, he is responsible for descriptions of the solution architecture and design overview. He holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Aachen University of Technology, Germany.
Jens Poscher joined Ericsson Eurolab Germany in 2001 to work with Mobile-PBN and to build up the circuit-switched design area. He has also actively supported Ericsson market units with design audits of customer networks and network integrations. He holds a degree in telecommunications engineering from the Aachen University of Technology, Germany.
Stefano Ruffini is responsible for the Ericsson Network Synchronization Center and serves as product manager for synchronization products at Ericsson Lab Italy. He joined Ericsson in 1993 to work with AXE platform development. From 1997 to 2000 he worked at the Core Switching Products product and system management department in Stockholm. He represents Ericsson in major standardization organizations that deal with network synchronization and has served as editor for various synchronization standards. He is an inventor with several patents in the area of network synchronization. He holds an M.S. in electronic engineering from the University La Sapienza of Rome, Italy.
Helena Stjerna joined Ericsson Germany in 2001 after having worked there for two years as a consultant. She began as a technical writer, producing customer product information (CPI) on GSNs. She has also had an active role in establishing quality and documentation standards for Mobile-PBN since its inception in 2000. She is currently project manager of the two Mobile-PBN releases scheduled for 2004 and 2005.
Krister Svanbro graduated from Luleå University of Technology (Luleå, Sweden) with an M.S. in computer science. He joined Ericsson in 1997 to work at Ericsson Research. His initial assignment, which focused on radio network solutions for cellular systems, included GPRS and the AMR voice codec. From 1999 to 2001, the focus of his research was on solutions for enabling efficient VoIP over cellular systems, such as (E)GPRS and WCDMA. This also included standardization activities in 3GPP and IETF. In 2003, Krister was assigned to lead Ericsson’s standardization delegation for push to talk as well as Ericsson’s research in this area. At present, he manages a research section that develops solutions for efficient packet-based real-time services in cellular systems.
Per Synnergren joined Ericsson in 2001. As senior research engineer at Advanced Wireless Ericsson Algorithm Research (AWARE), in Luleå, Sweden, the current focus of his work is on wireless IP optimization. During the past year he has been involved in the standardization activities of Ericsson Instant Talk. He has previously also worked with projects relating to voice coding and the transport of coded voice. He holds a Ph.D. in experimental mechanics and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from the Luleå University of Technology, Sweden.
