Security architectures for mobile networks
Ericsson understands that to fulfill operator requirements for flexible and secure solutions that involve its products, it must provide technical features that help operators with deterrence, prevention and protection, detection, response, and recovery. Ericsson’s security architecture for GSM and WCDMA mobile networks is based on security principles mandated by standards and experience, and is influenced by policies that regulate security and by vulnerability audits of the mobile infrastructure.
GSM and WCDMA—Common network approach
Bringing multimedia services to market without jeopardizing business, calls for a smooth network upgrade. GSM has already been widely deployed and many operators are in the process of deploying WCDMA. An important factor in this context— given that the systems will run in parallel for many years—is efficient coexistence. Ericsson has had this in mind while developing its products.
The importance of in-building solutions in third-generation networks
Operators cannot ignore the importance and advantages of providing dedicated inbuilding coverage in third-generation networks. Users who try new third-generation services expect them to exceed existing services in every respect. This is especially true where in-building coverage is concerned. As a consequence, operators need dedicated in-building coverage systems in third-generation networks to complement the existing macro network.
Multimedia in mobile phones—The ongoing revolution
During the past couple of years, we have seen the multimedia capabilities of mobile phones advance in leaps and bounds. If this trend holds, what role will mobile phones have in coming years? How will they be used? How will services evolve? While no prediction of the future is fail-safe, Ericsson believes a sound understanding of coming capabilities and of the underlying technology that is driving the evolution gives definition and contour to the discussion.
Expander—Cost-effective expansion into new geographical areas
Ericsson has developed a set of solutions that help operators address opportunities in high-growth markets by reducing their total cost of ownership. The solutions encompass everything from the core network and radio access network, to transmission, charging systems and services. Ericsson Expander consists of cost-effective solutions that provide coverage-optimized technology for GSM/EDGE and CDMA2000 networks.
