Bo Berglund is an Expert in radio technology. Since joining Ericsson in 1996 he has been involved in the development of linear power amplifier technology for PDC, TDMA, WCDMA and LTE base stations.

He has also worked with the systemization of radio in WCDMA base stations. At present he works with radio technology research at the Systems and Technology Department, Business Unit Networks. Bo holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Chalmers Institute of Technology (Göteborg, Sweden).

Olof (Olle) Billström retired from Ericsson in 1998 as an Expert in radio and telecommunications. He began his career in 1963 at SRA’s (Svenska Radioaktiebolaget) central development unit where he worked with new technology and systems (SRA later became a wholly owned subsidiary of Ericsson). In the 1970s, he worked with the development of the first mobile system, NMT, and later, with NMT network architecture and planning. He also represented Ericsson in NMT standardization efforts. In 1992, he spent six months in Germany, setting up the first MINI-LINK microwave system, linking together base stations and switches in Mannesmann’s mobile network. Between 1994 and 1996 he helped to systematize Ericsson’s patent portfolio (primarily radio products). Olof holds an M.S. in Engineering and a Licentiate degree in technology from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden).

 

Christina Birkehammar works as Senior Product Manager at Network and System

Solutions, PA Mobile Core, where the current focus of her work is on enhancing e2e application and service performance. She joined Ericsson in 1995 and has been involved with mobile telephony since 1996, mostly in core network product management. She has also worked in the Western Europe marketing unit. Christina holds an M.S. in civil engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden) and a diploma in marketing from the IHM Business School (Stockholm, Sweden).

Stefan Bruhn works at Ericsson Research as a Senior Specialist and project manager in the area of voice coding. He joined Ericsson in 1995 to work with the research and development of new algorithms for speech and audio data compression and transmission. In this capacity, he has also been involved in codec development and standardization in ETSI/3GPP and ITU-T, making significant contributions to the AMR-NB, AMR-WB, and AMR-WB+ standards. In 2004, he was named Ericsson inventor of the year. Stefan holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany).

Torbjörn Cagenius, who joined Ericsson in 1990, is a Senior Specialist in applied broadband network technologies. During the 1990s, he worked with the development, product management, and marketing of fiber-optic components and subsystems. Since 1999, his focus has been on research projects for fiber optics in RBS applications, multi-access architectures seen from a fixed broadband network perspective, and most recently, IMS-based services in the context of residential networks. Torbjörn holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden).

Jan Derksen joined Ericsson Holland in 1994 to serve as product manager of GSM radio base stations during Vodafone Holland’s rollout of GSM. He then moved to Ericsson’s global sales organization in Sweden, working with the early marketing of EDGE. He is currently Technical Marketing Manager in the WCDMA Product Management organization at Business Unit Networks, where he works with global product marketing for HSPA. Jan has a Master of Science degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands).

Peter Eneroth joined Ericsson in 2002. As Senior Specialist in speech and audio soft- ware at Ericsson Mobile Platforms (Business Unit Multimedia), in Lund, the current focus of his work is on voice solutions for circuit-switched and packet-data networks in mobile platforms. Previously, his focus was on adaptive signal processing algorithms for speech processing and adaptive antennas for radio communication. He holds an M.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in signal processing from Lund University (Sweden).

Magnus Ewerbring is Director of WCDMA RAN Product Management. Since the early 1990s he has been engaged in the development of third-generation mobile systems, holding a variety of positions within Ericsson Research and Development. In 1996, he was made the head of System Design, WCDMA

RAN, with the task of specifying and verifying Ericsson’s first commercial WCDMA RAN products. Magnus holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Chalmers University of Technology (Göteborg, Sweden) and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Cornell University (Ithaca, N.Y., USA).

Andreas Fasbender works at Ericsson’s research branch in Germany, developing service concepts, technologies, and product strategies for user- and business-friendly telecommunications networks. Most recently, his focus has been on the integration of fixed and mobile multimedia services enabled by the Home IMS Gateway. Andreas joined Ericsson in 1997, working on middleware platforms for mobile information systems. From 1999 to 2002 he was on assignment as program manager and research director at Ericsson Cyberlab Singapore, developing applications and terminals for cellular, ad hoc, and home environments. Andreas holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the Aachen University of Technology (Germany).

Jaco Fourie joined Ericsson in 1999 when he was assigned by MTN South Africa to bring operator competence and real-time charging requirements to Ericsson. He began as head of product management for prepaid and mediation services, leading a team to define Ericsson’s charging strategies – the most significant of these being the Charging Concept. He is currently responsible for business development and strategies for revenue management, with special emphasis on fu-

ture requirements.

Karl Hellwig, who joined Ericsson in 1994, is a Senior Specialist in voice and audio coding.

He has researched and worked with the standardization of voice coding and transmission in ETSI, ITU-T and 3GPP since 1981. Major parts of the AMR, AMR-WB and TFO/TrFO solutions are based on his initiative. At present, Karl works with core network system management in Aachen, Germany. He has a Master’s degree in communications from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany).

Johan Hjelm, who joined Ericsson in 1997, is a Senior Specialist in the service layer for future media services. He is an army captain, a W3C Fellow, and has been a visiting engineer at MIT. Before joining Ericsson, he had a distinguished career as journalist and media researcher in various Swedish organizations. He currently works in the area of future IPTV services, especially with the integration of communications and media services.

Uwe Horn is an Expert in the field of multimedia content delivery at Ericsson Research. Since joining Ericsson, in 1998, he has worked as technical coordinator and project manager in various standardization and prototyping projects. At the Ericsson Eurolab R&D Center in Aachen, Germany, he leads a team specialized in fixed and mobile content delivery networks. The current focus of his work is on mobile broadcast and IPTV. Uwe holds a diploma in computer science from the University of Bonn (Germany) and a Ph.D. in telecommunications from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany).

Robert Jansen joined Ericsson Holland in 1993 to work with DECT system development and support. He moved to Sweden in1998 to work on mobile solutions for enterprise. In 2000, he began working with

WCDMA technical sales support and product marketing. Robert has a Master of Science degree from the University of Hertfordshire (Hatfield, UK).

Jan Johansson is a Senior Specialist, RF Components, Component Technology. He joined Ericsson Microelectronics (formerly Rifa and Ericsson Components) in 1984 to work with IC process and device development, primarily for wired and wireless phone applications, and RF power transistors for

RBS applications. In 2002, he moved to Infineon Technologies as part of Ericsson’s sale of its microelectronics business. He rejoined Ericsson in December 2004 to work as a component engineer of RF amplifiers and RF power transistors. Jan holds an M.S. in applied physics and electrical engineering from the Institute of Technology at Linköping University (Sweden).

Stefan Johansson joined Ericsson in 1996 to work with the development of various WCDMA radio network products, in particular, the WCDMA RNC. At present, the focus of his work at UTRAN System

Management is on the introduction of new circuit-switched radio access bearers. He holds an M.S. degree in applied physics and electrical engineering from the Linköping Institute of Technology (Sweden).

Thomas Lejon has been involved in the telecommunications industry since 1996, working mainly with RF design for base stations. He began his career working at Ericsson for four years as an RF designer for TDMA systems. In 2000, his focus shifted to WCDMA radio architectures and linearization technologies. In 2005 he began working with power amplifier efficiency-enhancement technologies at the WCDMA RBS radio design department. Markku Maijala joined Ericsson in 1998 to work with radio network dimensioning, planning, and optimization for GSM and WCDMA. Today, at WCDMA Radio Access Network Systems Management, he works mainly with HSDPA deployment issues involving field trial measurements in customer networks and the development of dimensioning methods. He has a Master of Science degree from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden).

Ignacio Más Ivars joined Ericsson Research in 2005 to work with service layer technologies. He has an M.S. in telecommunication engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) and a Licentiate degree in technology from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden). He has authored and co-authored several papers on IMS and SIP technology as well as on admission control and quality of service on the internet. Ignacio’s research interests include admission control, quality of service, multimedia transport, signaling, and network security.

Gunnar Sandegren is Senior Expert at Group Function, Strategy and Product Portfolio Management. He joined Ericsson in 1985 to work with early development of GSM, and later, to manage Ericsson’s GSM product family. In 1991, he joined Comvik GSM AB (a private network operator in Sweden) to serve as Technical Director. In late 1992, he returned to Ericsson as Director of Strategic Business Development for GSM, NMT, TACS, and later, UMTS. From 1991 to 1994, Gunnar served as chairman of SMG1, an ETSI subcommittee that specified services and features for GSM. In addition, he has served as vice chairman of TC/SMG, an ETSI technical committee that specified GSM 900, DCS 1800, and UMTS. He has also played an active role in the creation of 3GPP, the international body that has taken over much of the specification work previously carried out by ETSI and other regional and national bodies. Gunnar holds an M.S. in engineering and a Ph.D. in technology from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden).

Niclas Selberg joined Ericsson in 1997. He has an M.S. in physics from the Royal  Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden) and a Ph.D. in physics from Stockholm University. During his nine years at Ericsson, Niclas has designed end-to-end multiservice network architectures and solutions. He currently works at Systems & Technology, DMMP (Business Unit Networks) where he is responsible for evolving the architecture for content and media – including mobile TV, IPTV, and entertainment solutions.

Jan Uddenfeldt has been with Ericsson since 1978, and became head of the Research Department at Ericsson Radio Systems in 1985. In 1990 he became Vice President of Research and Development with responsibility for Ericsson’s cellular radio products. In 1998 he was appointed Chief Technology Officer for the Ericsson Group with responsibility for Ericsson’s worldwide R&D activities. Since 2004, he has served as Senior Vice President and Senior Advisor, Technology, to the CEO. In this position he is responsible for technology strategies and the chair of Ericsson Research Board and Ericsson Standardization Board. He is also responsible for globally aligning Ericsson technology with leading operators. In addition, he is a visiting professor at the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden). Jan has actively participated in the development of GSM and WCDMA and has been establishing technology collaboration with major telecom operators in the US, China, Japan, and Europe. He received a Ph.D. from the Royal Institute of Technology in 1978 and an honorary Doctor’s degree from the University of Lund (Sweden) in 1996. He is a Fellow of IEEE, and a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). He has received several prestigious awards for his achievements, including the German Edward Rhein Foundation Technology Prize (1997) for the innovation of GSM and the Swedish KTH Prize (2000) for GSM and 3G. In 2005 he received the Gold Medal award from IVA for his contribution to the cellular industry.

Erik Westerberg received a Ph.D. in physics at Stockholm University in 1993. He then spent two years at M.I.T. (Boston, USA) before joining Ericsson in 1996. At Ericsson, Erik has worked with standardization, high-level design of Ericsson’s GPRS/EDGE system, field measurements, and operator-related projects. In addition to GPRS/EDGE, Erik has worked with WiMAX, HSDPA and 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE). In 2002, He was made an Expert in the area of GPRS and EDGE.
