Sustainability is vital, for Ericsson and for our planet. In this issue of Technology Update, we take a closer look at what it means.
This issue of Technology Update, a digital supplement to the Ericsson Review journal, includes articles about Evo RAN (the evolution of the radio access network) and VDSL2 – with which Ericsson set a world record of 500Mbps over 500 meters of copper-wire pairs using vectoring technology.
We also present two videos on sustainability, one with me and one with Elaine Weidman Grunewald, who was recently appointed Vice President of Sustainability and CR at Ericsson. Sustainability is a very important and strategic area for Ericsson that delivers social, economic and environmental benefits. It is also a great business opportunity. Ericsson recently announced a collaboration with Kofi Annan's Global Humanitarian Forum and our pan-African customers to use the extensive rollout of mobile networks across the continent to deliver weather information to those most affected by climate change.
We also highlight the new 3GPP Project Coordination Group chairman, Asok Chatterjee.
You might recall that in our previous Technology Update we shared some insights into IPTV and the state of the industry. Leading independent analyst company Current Analysis recently ranked Ericsson joint-first in IPTV, thanks especially to our complete and diverse in-house IPTV portfolio. Current Analysis also mentioned a demo by Ericsson Research that proved how far Ericsson has come in such a short time. We intend to revisit this topic in the future, because this is only one of many areas of multimedia research that are now bearing fruit.
We can also celebrate our boat, Ericsson 4, winning the Volvo Ocean Race.
Enjoy this issue.
