Ericsson's Environmental Management System (EMS), certified according to ISO 14001, has been in operation worldwide since 2001. Ericsson was one of the first companies to receive global ISO 14001 certification.

A single global system enables us to assess our environmental impacts independently of organizational structure and changes, providing a clear and consolidated view of all our impacts and actions. This global view avoids the fragmented sub-optimization that might result from parts of our organization working independently.

The EMS is based on the Ericsson Group Management System (EGMS), a framework for systematic management of all of the company's operations. In addition to our own EMS program, from 2006 and ongoing Ericsson utilizes its general supplier evaluation programs to also gain a clearer picture of the environmental management profiles of most suppliers. The results from this evaluation is linked together with other Code of Conduct issues to further refine environmental risk profiles from suppliers on which on-site audits are conducted.
