Disasters - a growing problem around the world

It's a fact - disasters are on the rise around the world. According to one estimate, the 1990s saw a tripling of disasters and a nine-fold increase in economic costs when compared with the 1960s. Climate change, increasing concentrations of people in vulnerable areas, and political and economic instability are all contributing factors.
The challenge is - how do we deal with this growing dilemma?
Ericsson believes that there should be a fast, effective response to disaster. Ericsson Response is a global initiative aimed at developing a better, faster response to human suffering caused by disaster. The initiative formalizes Ericsson’s commitment to the issue based on its previous involvement and experience in various disaster response efforts throughout the world.
Ericsson Response was born from dialogue with experts, concern for an issue and employee involvement in disaster response. In times of disaster, we will provide communications aid and work with leading disaster response organizations. We will be a catalyst for greater awareness and a more strategic response to major disasters. And we seek to engage other global corporations to help better address this issue.
