Agreements
  • A Letter of Intent was signed with IFRC in April 2000
  • Frame work agreement with IFRC at the World Summit in Johannesburg 2002
  • Agreement with PADRU, in Panama, 2002 for the use of Ericsson volunteers and equipment in disasters mainly in Central America, the Caribbean and Northern Latin America
  • Letter of Intent signed in October 2002 with the Spanish Red Cross regarding cooperation both in Spain and in international relief operations
  • Partnerships agreements are being developed with the Norwegian RC
  • In January 2004, a Letter of Intent was signed between Ericsson Colombia and the Colombian Red Cross to cover the northern region of Latin America. A joint exercise in Colombia was held to launch the new agreement
  • In 2004, one agreement was signed with the Dominican Red Cross and an other with Panamanian Red Cross to work together to provide humanitarian support for responding to disasters in their countries
Training and development
  • Development of the WLAN for Disaster and Emergency Response (WIDER)
  • Development of a Communication Center in Panama for PADRU operations in the Americas.
  • 9 ERVs trained for Field Assessment and Coordination Team (FACT) and Regional Intervention Teams (RITS)
  • IFRC and the Swedish RC provided 3 basic training courses (BTC) for around 60 ERVs
  • Ericsson Response basic volunteer training with NRX, IFRC, OCHA, WFP and SRSA as facilitators
  • Workshop in Geneva on how to use GSM more efficiently in disasters. UN organizations were also invited
  • Scenario and field experience presentations for Ericsson technicians and ERVs
  • Seminars on new communication technologies provided by Ericsson
  • GSM presentations at FACT, ERU and other IFRC and Red Cross training
Operational cooperation
  • IFRC cooperation FACT team in the Bam operation
  • One complete GSM cellular system, microwave equipment, mobiles and satellite phones are prepositioned with PADRU in Panama for use in disasters in the region
  • Mobiles and satellite phones are prepositioned locally in countries in Latin America, for use in disasters in the region.
  • ERV (Ericsson Response Volunteer) on a FACT mission to Tajikistan 2000
  • Support to disaster relief operations in El Salvador (2001), India (2001), Vietnam (every year), Peru (2001), Belize (2001), Algeria (2001 and 2003), Afghanistan (2002) (through Pakistan and Iran), Tanzania (2002), Southern Africa (2002), Central America and the Caribbean (2004 and 5), Indonesia (Tsunami, 2005)
  • Implementation of mobile (cellular) communication to refugee camps in Tanzania. Connection through satellite to the public mobile network in Dar Es Salam
  • Donation fleece from Ericsson to Swedish RC for making blankets for children packages to Siberia
