Ericsson, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Dominican Red Cross signed today a letter of cooperation.
April 30, 2004

The cooperation is part of the framework of a global agreement signed in September 2002 by Ericsson and the Federation during the World Summit of Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.
Ericsson, the IFRC and the Dominican Red Cross will work together to provide humanitarian support for responding to disasters in the Dominican Republic. These efforts could include the provision of communication solutions, preparedness and response to disasters as well as sending Ericsson Response volunteers to assist in emergency operations in the country.
"Our good corporate citizen philosophy is the main reason why Ericsson is present when there is a human need," commented Erik Glimtoft, acting general manager, Ericsson Dominican Republic.
"Communications are, no doubt, the backbone of timely and effective response to human suffering in emergency situations. We can tell the Dominicans that we have a tool to strengthen our efforts to save lives in situations that may affect their integrity," said Mrs. Ligia Leroux, president of the Dominican Red Cross, at the signing of the agreement.
