The Country Manager Ericsson Panama, Mrs. Helene Ujueta, and the President of the Panamanian Red Cross, Mr. Jaime Fernández, signed the letter of intent. They were also representing the Ericsson Response program and the IFRC in this occasion.
"In Ericsson we have a strong social commitment and for this reason we are part of important initiatives like this one. Ericsson Response is a global corporate program, which is endorsed by the United Nations and the IFRC. There have been many situations where we have been able to help, and we want to be ready to support the Panamanian Red Cross and the country in general in the best way, in case of need," states Ericsson's Country Manager in Panama.
According to the agreement both organizations will work together on possibilities to provide telecommunications in the activities carried out by the Red Cross. Ericsson will contribute with communications technology expertise, while the Red Cross will share knowledge of subjects related to humanitarian relief to the Ericsson staff.
In addition, the two organizations will be able to jointly participate in international emergency operations through the agreement between Ericsson Response and the Federation. Finally, the cooperation between private and public sector will be promoted through different communications strategies.
In this respect, there are plans to publish shared information concerning best practices, to promote the best use of telecommunications in humanitarian emergency relief, and to involve other private or public partners to establish alliances for social projects.
"This agreement confirms the commitment of the Red Cross in Panama towards the most vulnerable. By establishing strategic alliances with the private sector, we will extend the range of humanitarian services offered by our organization. This cooperation will impact the actions implemented by the Red Cross, especially in disaster response. We have worked together with Ericsson already in the past, mainly during the carnival taking place during Easter," affirms the President of the Panamanian Red Cross.
