Third generation mobile communications, for instance WCDMA technology, provide higher connection speeds and a number of new applications. However, one major factor for the build-out of the existing network is the fact that the capacity needs increase. More people get mobile phones and more calls and messages are sent. In order to achieve more capacity more base stations are needed.

These worldwide standards take into account wide safety margins. The scientific evidence accumulated over many years does not demonstrate any adverse health effects associated with the radio waves from mobile phones and base stations meeting these standards.
