“I am pleased to see our efforts in converged networks recognized by the IEC,” says Tom Simonsen, Product Line Manager for Broadband Access at Ericsson’s Business Unit Networks.
The EDA 1200 converged solution enables broadband operators or converged operators to add a mobile broadband offering on the same infrastructure as fixed broadband.
The true converged network solution combines the capability to provide FTTH for applications such as IPTV, with multiple simultaneous HDTV streams and online gaming, together with high-speed mobile broadband, enabling access to broadband services anywhere and at any time. The truly innovative aspect of the solution is its ability to aggregate different technologies such as VDSL2, ADSL, fiber and LTE.
The business benefits of the award may prove significant, Simonsen says, and the benefits for end-users are apparent too. “The solution means a step forward for our vision of Full Service Broadband, enabling many new services for the consumer,” he says.
The EDA 1200 converged solution for FTTH and mobile backhaul is a vital part of the world’s first commercial 4G/LTE site solution that Ericsson unveiled together with operator TeliaSonera earlier this year.
John Janowiak, president of the IEC, which organizes the Broadband World Forum and hosts the InfoVision Awards, says the overall level of competing solutions was very high this year.
“The caliber of submissions for the InfoVision Awards illustrates great strides in the industry and we’re pleased to honor these advancements,” he said. Ericsson won the award in the Wireless Broadband category, one of 10 categories.
