A future rich in mobile entertainment, and the path to making it a reality, was the theme for a Mobile World Congress panel discussion attended by guests including actor and director Kevin Spacey and MySpace CEO and co-founder Chris DeWolfe.

The panel at the Barcelona event brought together entertainment artists and companies, along with internet and mobile telecommunication industry players.
Spacey stressed the importance of mobile entertainment services, saying that, in many places, the first place a child might see a video would be on a mobile phone.
He added that mobile video contained the power to connect people anywhere in the world who could share their experiences like never before.
Moderator Ralph Simon, CEO of the Mobilium Advisory Group, said mobile entertainment was not only about film, but also included social networking, music and gaming.
He said those wanting to build a mobile entertainment business needed to focus on four critical areas: availability, accessibility, appeal and affordability.
One successful example of this is the social networking site MySpace with its MySpace Mobile portal. DeWolfe was on hand to discuss how MySpace sees the future of mobile entertainment.
He said he expected 600 million users to be accessing their social network services on the mobile by 2012, a large jump from the 14 million who did the same in 2007.
DeWolfe sees this growth coming from different areas, including the increasing popularity of smartphones, better operator infrastructure and improved revenue opportunities through cooperation with advertisers.
Olaf Swantee, Senior Executive Vice President for Personal Communications Services with operator Orange, contributed his experiences from Orange’s work with mobile entertainment.
He said that operators could play an essential role in increasing the popularity of mobile entertainment for three key reasons: they are already trusted by users; they are present all over the world, essential when the appetite for these services is global; and they are convergent, meaning they can supply the multi-screen “entertainment everywhere” experience.
