Ericsson has launched the MD110 Convergence Communication System with a range of new features, including reliable IP networking and extended support for the company's new Dialog 4000 range of business telephones.
21 October 2003
The system's unrivalled support for multiple convergence gives corporate users the freedom to move between different fixed and wireless networks using their communication device of choice.
The MD110 Convergence Communication System is the latest incarnation of Ericsson’s successful MD110 business communications system for medium and large enterprises. The new IP networking capability enables companies to connect dispersed workforces cost-effectively over a corporate intranet or other IP infrastructure, as well as over public mobile networks. IP extensions on different MD110 nodes can now be connected using peer-to-peer switching (media streaming), ensuring voice quality and reliability are maintained through the elimination of transcoding delays. MD110 networking services are supported for any IP extension over the network.
Ericsson's new Dialog 4000 range of IP, digital and analog business telephones feature ergonomic design, long-term upgradability and strong environmental performance. In addition, there will be a new DECT portable phone, the DT590, that offers improved graphical display and loudspeaker plus hands-free functions.
"In introducing IP networking in MD110, we've taken great care to carry forward the advanced PBX functionality and reliability that our customers expect from the system," said Lars E Svensson, President of Ericsson Enterprise. "MD110 Convergence Communication System users now have access to a variety of reliable converged fixed as well as mobile voice, data and multimedia communications.
"Distributed companies can now bring small branches into a single, efficient network," continued Lars Svensson. "Added to this, productivity is enhanced through unprecedented support for mobile working, with device- and network-independent features like Mobile Extension and Free Seating."
The new MD110 Convergence Communication System offers enhanced IP telephony for small to medium-sized branch offices through the Ericsson Enterprise Branch Gateway (EEBG), which supports direct media streaming. The EEBG ensures access to the local PSTN/ISDN at competitive call rates, and provides a working alternative in the event of a network failure. The unique distributed call control architecture of MD110 ensures that downtime is kept to a minimum through automatic recovery and registration. External calls to the remote local area can be routed through the corporate network and 'hop off' to the PSTN through the EEBG - delivering potentially large cost savings.
The MD110 Dynamic Network Administration (DNA) suite of administrative tools, directory services and end-user applications have also been extensively upgraded to support the new MD110 solutions. For example, on top of the existing commonly used business class telephony features, the MD110 IP softphone (Ericsson Communication Client 1.1) has been enhanced with a monitor feature, enabling professional administrative assistant support for all telephony users.
The MD110 Convergence Communication System is available immediately. It will be possible to upgrade existing MD110 PBXs to the new system.
