Bell Canada has teamed with Ericsson Canada to expand its Alberta network by deploying more than 300 point-to-multipoint (PTMP) wireless links - one of the largest fixed wireless broadband deployments in Canada.
The contract includes a complete MINI-LINK TM network including point-to-multipoint systems, network management and services. The system is complemented by point-to-point MINI-LINK High Capacity OC-3 equivalent solution, providing data rates of up to 155 Mbps. Implementation has begun on the network, which will cover several thousand kilometers across Alberta.
"Bell is proud to deliver another landmark network initiative in the West," said Paul Healey, President of Western Canada for Bell. "Fixed wireless enables Bell to deliver on our promise of efficiently providing business customers with access to Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity as well as new voice and data services."
Bell chose Ericsson's MINI-LINK because it delivers improved transmission flexibility, lower operating costs and greater scope for service differentiation. Ericsson was selected after extensive lab and field trails and verifications including integration to Bell's core network and network management systems.
