Computer network intrusion at Ericsson

March 8, 2005

An individual has made network intrusions in the Ericsson internal computer network system and gained unlawful access to internal and confidential Ericsson information. Ericsson detected the intrusion at an early stage and set the objective to identify the perpetrator and find out the motives, and to bring him to justice.
The criminal investigation shows that the perpetrator has acted alone and has not passed on information to a third party. Ericsson's customers are consequently not affected and any damage for Ericsson is limited and caused by the intrusion as such.
Ericsson has reported the intrusion to the Swedish police. In October 2004 Swedish police apprehended a 25-year-old male Hungarian citizen in Sweden. Police and prosecutor has conducted a criminal investigation and on March 8, 2005, the prosecutor announced to take legal proceedings and a trail will be held at Stockholms tingsrätt (Stockholm city court) shortly.
