Ericsson working with Microsoft to help businesses benefit from mobile unified communications

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Microsoft share a vision of mobility and software-enabled solutions delivering a total unified communications experience that leverages the convergence of enterprise communications to include the desktop, mobile devices and line of business applications. Ericsson will build the next generation Ericsson Enterprise Mobility Gateway on Microsoft Office Communications Server's VoIP call management to give enterprises a fast and cost-effective route to fixed-mobile convergence.

Ericsson and Microsoft share a belief in the critical role software plays in mobility and unified communications. By building the next generation Ericsson Enterprise Mobility Gateway on Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, Ericsson will enable business users to use their mobile devices as extensions of their corporate communications network at all times. This solution provides Ericsson's enterprise customer base and new customers with a compelling migration path toward mobile unified communications for enterprises. In addition to having access to functions like a single number, directory search, conference calling and call forwarding, business users will also have access to presence information, click to dial, remote management, soft buttons and SIP-based services on their mobile devices - whether a traditional mobile phone, smartphone, dual-mode mobile/WiFi phone or laptop computer.

Urban Gillström, head of Ericsson's enterprise business, says: "Extending Microsoft's Office Communications Server call management capabilities with the features offered in Ericsson's Enterprise Mobility Gateway provides enterprises with the latest step toward delivering true mobile unified communications to their employees. We are, together with Microsoft, committed to fully integrate and build our enterprise applications portfolio for Mobile Unified Communication on Microsoft's voice platform so that enterprises can communicate and collaborate more effectively across PCs, phones and mobile devices."

Gurdeep Singh Pall, corporate vice president, Unified Communications Group at Microsoft, says: "Ericsson's thought leadership in mobility and Microsoft's leadership in Unified Communications complement each other. Together we bring a complete offering of mobile unified communications solutions to operators and enterprises."
