Ericsson signs loan of SEK 4 billion with the European Investment Bank

Ericsson announced today it has signed a seven-year loan of SEK 4 billion with the European Investment Bank (EIB). The loan supports Ericsson’s R&D activities to develop the next generation of mobile broadband technology at sites in Kista, Gothenburg and Linköping in Sweden. The investments are being made between 2008 and 2010.

The investment in R&D activities includes the development of telecommunications equipment and software to implement the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) radio technology that will enable high downlink and uplink speeds for mobile broadband applications, as well as the development of the equipment and services needed to implement IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). IMS enables advanced services for the fixed/mobile convergence. Development of the existing core network to adapt to the LTE technology is also included in the project.
