Ericsson and ART Sign an IPTV Partnership Agreement

ART, the renowned media company and Ericsson, the world leading supplier for mobile networks, signed an agreement this month entailing that both companies will work together to offer a new generation way of watching TV through the IPTV technology.

April 14, 2009

Viewers no longer want a passive TV experience, they expect to be able to watch what they want, when they want to, and to interact with the service and use it to interact with each other. All this and more can only be a reality through the technology of IPTV.

Start-over-TV, where one user can literally rewind what another user has already watched and start over again, or being able to send a message direct to the TV screen, that displays on top of a program, are typical examples of services offered through IPTV.

This two-way service is possible with IPTV as it utilizes broadband and IMS technology to provide the functionality that makes personalized TV possible.

“Ericsson is a technology leader in the area of digital TV especially after our acquisition of Tandberg TV. On the other hand, ART is a reputable content provider and premium content leader in the Arab region. We will cooperate on promoting, developing and taking forward the market towards the next generation of digital content distribution. We will participate and work together in any customer case, locally or globally. Ericsson will offer its end to end technical solutions (Prime Integrator) and ART will bring the live and video on demand content. We both together bring the value to our customer to secure the business model and revenue at the end,” said Rafiah Ibrahim, President of Ericsson Northern Africa.

“ART’s channels are proudly enjoying a high viewer-ship rate; however with today’s on-going technology we thought that it is a must to include today’s high-tech features to our channels to ensure a continuous success. When this idea occurred to us, we did not hesitate to partner with such a successful company as Ericsson,” explained Nehal El-Alfy, Commercial Manager at ART.

“It is our pleasure to work with ART on such an exciting service. Our know-how in the technology arena, combined with the popularity of ART’s content, will guarantee a continuous high quality of service whilst ensuring end-user satisfaction. By virtue of this agreement, we can proudly say that we are able to offer a complete end to end TV solution,” added Max Bashtawi, Vice President for Multimedia at Ericsson Northern Africa.
