Ericsson has recently signed a contract with China Telecom to provide 40 Gbps DWDM optical transmission solution for the upgrade of the operator’s backbone network covering the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China.
August 7, 2009
Under the contract, Ericsson will deliver its leading 40 Gbps DWDM solution, the MHL 3000 series, to upgrade China Telecom’s existing 10G DWDM network connecting Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou metropolitan areas of the Yangtze River Delta region, the center of Chinese economic development.
Deliveries will start in the third quarter of this year and the upgraded network is planned for commercial use by year-end. With a fourfold expansion of its current transmission capacity, China Telecom will be able to meet the fast-growing broadband bandwidth demand while ensuring superior bandwidth utilization and quality of services for subscribers in the region.
Mats H Olsson, President of Ericsson Greater China says: "We are proud to support China Telecom in their commercial launch of 40 Gbps DWDM services, which marks a milestone in our longtime strategic partnership. We are confident that our cutting-edge optical transmission solution will play a more and more active role in accelerating the migration to Next Generation Networks of the Chinese operators in the 3G era.“
To meet the growing demand from consumers for bandwidth-hungry services, operators worldwide are planning for deployment of the 40 Gbps DWDM technology to expand their network capacity. Ericsson’s 40 Gbps optical solution, built on the advanced MHL 3000 platform, is the most reliable and future proof solution in the market for transporting huge data traffic between network routers in core networks. The MHL series is a vital part of Ericsson’s Full Service Broadband offering.
