2010 Ericsson Business Innovation Forum : in Shanghai

Welcome

To understand the global telecom industry, one must understand the development in Asia.

Although telecom is a global industry, the advanced markets of for example Western Europe, with more than 120 percent mobile penetration, and North America, with almost 90 percent, have to a large extent set the standard for the telecom industry.

These markets will no doubt continue to play an important role. But with some 60 percent of the world’s population living in Asia, with a strong economic development pushing the middle class up the purchasing power ladder, this region will continue to grow in importance.

Looking at telecoms, China alone has more than 380 million internet users and 770 million mobile subscriptions, with some 9 million new mobile subscriptions every month.

The rapidly growing online population in Asia is important to the technology industry, which is reflected in the sector’s strategies and business innovation opportunities.

What does the development in Asia mean, not only to countries, corporations and consumers in the region, but also to the rest of the world? What new technologies, devices and services will see the light of day as yesterday’s market conditions no longer universally prevail?

The answers to these questions – and many others – will be discussed here at the global media program Ericsson Business Innovation Forum in Shanghai.

Welcome!
