Ericsson is powering more than 180 commercial EDGE networks, representing a market share well above 50%. (January 2008) The EDGE technology - Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution - is defined as a 3G standard as well. EDGE has become a natural evolution of GSM/GPRS and the majority of WCDMA-HSPA networks combine with EDGE for service continuity and the best user experience. According to GSM Association there where 290 operators in 136 countries offering GSM/EDGE services, as per January 2008."
