The WCDMA technology is now well established on the global mobile market. Ericsson has 168 references out of a total of 337 agreements (50%), (August 2009).
The HSPA technology has a strong momentum right now. According to GSA, September 2009, HSPA networks have been rolled out in 119 countries, spread on all continents. Ericsson has supplied 138 out of 283 launched HSPA networks (49%) (Sep 2009).
Ericsson is powering 266 commercial EDGE networks worldwide, (June 2009). The EDGE technology - Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution - is defined as a 3G standard as well. EDGE has become a natural evolution of GSM/GPRS and the majority of WCDMA-HSPA networks combine with EDGE for service continuity and the best user experience. According to GSA, there where 443 operators in 181 countries offering GSM/EDGE services, as per July 2009.
