Date: Friday, December 27 2002Ericsson has been awarded an additional USD $25 million to supply CDMA2000 1X equipment and services to China Unicom. Ericsson has deployed its leading total CDMA2000 1X solution to upgrade and expand China Unicom's existing CDMA network in seven provinces, Jiangsu, Anhui, Yunnan, Henan, Heilongjiang, Liaoning and Sichuan. Some of the provinces already have commercial CDMA2000 1X subscribers on the networks. The new contracts follow the USD $150 million frame agreement for CDMA2000 1X signed in October 2002 for China Unicom's phase two CDMA network upgrades and expansions. The additional contracts are now bringing Ericsson's total phase two value to USD 175 million. China Unicom is expecting to roll out its CDMA2000 1X services nationwide by Q1 2003. "China is the world's fastest growing telecommunications market and one of Ericsson's top global markets. Ericsson's total CDMA2000 solutions system includes: Ericsson's leading 800 MHz Compact Radio Base Stations (RBS), Base Station Controllers (BSC), Mobile Switching Centers (MSC), Home Location Registers (HLR), Network Management Systems (NMS) and a full portfolio of services including training, network rollout and technical support. Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communications Company Ltd (ENC), a joint venture of Ericsson's in China, will deliver all Ericsson equipment and services for the new contracts.
