In order to develop new revenue streams Hotel Belmont in Belgium wanted the ability to provide high-speed internet facilities in every room for its guests. In the highly competitive hospitality industry, the hotel needed to target corporate users as well as its other guests with improved communications functionality.

The hotel's management approached BusinessCom, Ericsson's local reseller, as a reputable vendor of high-quality telecoms solutions. BusinessCom saw the opportunity to offer a unique solution from Ericsson. Hotel Belmont required a total solution comprising of both standard hotel telecoms and internet services in guest rooms. The hotel selected a solution providing Ericsson's BusinessPhone 250 system with EDA for the hotel, including the installation of 32 ethernet ADSL modems and two WLAN access points.

Ericsson was the original developer of high-speed internet systems. This new scalable solution can be applied to any size of accomodation, from 12 to 20 000 access points.

Ericsson's solution utilized Hotel Belmont's existing cabling infrastructure. This was one major benefit of the high-speed internet solution to the hotel's needs. The removal of the need to replace large amounts of existing cabling minimized complexity and increased the flexibility of the overall solution.

Patrick Faut, Sales Manager, Ericsson, underlines the key strengths of the solution to the hotel: "Internet in guest rooms, based on high-speed internet, is a win-win situation for both the guests and hotel owners. We have also been working on flexible billing, integrated with the front desk manager, invoicing by time or by content use. The owner wanted to establish the base for IP TV and video-on-demand applications in order to develop additional revenue streams in the future."

Hotel Belmont now finds itself with higher quality internet services than many four-star hotels in Brussels. It finds itself booked with corporate parties seeking to use both individual rooms and meeting rooms. Marc Van Pee, Manager, Hotel Belmont, indicates his satisfaction with the solution: "Hotel Belmont has received a very good and professional service.
