OMX is a leading expert in the exchange industry, who develops and provides technology and services to companies in the securities industry around the globe. With securities exchanges in Helsinki and Stockholm, OMX has 1,400 employees in nine different countries and around-the-clock operations.

By 2002, the company had outgrown its existing premises and was spread out over three locations in Stockholm. With a telephony network that was not equipped to accommodate the company's expansion, three handsets were often used per employee.

Björn Walman, Vice President of Facility Management, OMX outlines the key objectives for the company: "We wanted to consolidate our business into a single building and be in total control of communication."

The company had been successfully using Ericsson solutions since the 1980s. Björn Walman outlines the benefits of working with a long-term partner: "OMX chose Ericsson because they could meet our demands for different communications with a converged solution."

Ericsson analyzed OMX's convergence and functionality demands and proposed a solution using MD110 as an IP-telephony and mobility base.

Ericsson supplied the MD110 PBX and support system through its local reseller, TDC Dotcom. The solution includes the MX-ONE server-based IP-PBX, Sony Ericsson mobile phones with Mobile Extension functionality and IP handsets. OMX also selected Ericsson OneBox and Ericsson Voice Activated Attendant (VAA) and the Ericsson One Phone Solution.

Ericsson's One Phone solution means that employees only require one handset for all calls. The new system is also user-friendly for OMX customers, with a single contact number for any given individual.

The solution chosen by OMX results in better cost control and lower mobile telephony costs. With fewer phones per user, the need for call forwarding has been reduced.

Björn Walman concludes: "Using Ericsson Mobile Extension we can cut our telephony costs by between $200 000 and $250 000 per year. Ericsson is unique in being able to support technical solutions, regardless of whether this involves conventional telephony, IP-telephony, or hybrid solutions."
