HP is a global provider of IT managed services and operates in more than 170 countries worldwide. HP Sweden has 20 offices and 2 400 employees across the country and in a fast changing business environment, needed to reduce cost of ownership, control costs and increase the efficiency of its business processes as well as build mobility into its communications.
Due to past mergers and acquisitions, HP was managing 20 PBXs from six different vendors in Sweden. Multiple infrastructures reduced the manageability of the system and increased maintenance costs. Internal communications, particularly telephony, were fragmented and it was common for employees to each have several devices. By integrating systems, HP aimed to meet its goal of reducing communication costs by at least 20 percent.
Ericsson has supported HP in the convergence of its existing infrastructures and the building of a unified communications' network. Ericsson was selected as a partner based on its ability to provide world leading technology and its excellent track record in managing and integrating multi-vendor equipment. Roland Vejdemo, CEO, HP Sweden outlines Ericsson's contribution to the project: "Mobility was a central requirement and Ericsson had the strongest and purest solution that combined a mobile and a fixed network."
In today's competitive market, a unified and mobilized communications' strategy is a key success factor. Ericsson's One Phone Concept enables HP to implement mobility as part of its overall communications strategy. Ericsson's One Phone concept has been implemented so that each employee has one number and one preferred device with which they can utilize all the functionality in the corporate communications system, regardless of their location. Magnus Leonhardt, Senior Portfolio Manager, Mobility Solutions, Ericsson, underlines the need for mobilized communication: "There is a growing demand in the workforce for mobility and increased flexibility. Equipping each employee with a personalized communications' solution meets this need and greatly increases efficiency."
The reduction in terminals and devices, the standardization of voice services and the renegotiated mobile tariffs with the operator have reduced the total voice communications' costs by 41 percent. Roland Vejdemo sums up: "With the adapted communications' strategy, HP today has increased the mobile way of working. By being reachable independent of location or time, we have improved our flexibility. This meant that we needed to work in another way, always available, which I am sure will be what our customers expect from us in the future."
