In the early 1990s, the telecommunications industry in Sri Lanka experienced a rapid development. The government operators invested in many new projects to broaden their customer base and various private enterprises were established to provide modern telecom services such as Mobile services, Internet and Data communications.

In mid-1994 Ericsson of Sweden, the world's largest telecom supplier, active in over 140 countries, decided to form a local company in Sri Lanka to supply and support new projects.

Ericsson Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. was established confirming Ericsson's commitment to Sri Lanka and since the start of the company Ericsson has been one of the major suppliers of telecommunications systems and services to the operators in Sri Lanka. The head office of the company is located at No.46, Vauxhall Street, Colombo 02.

The organization is split into six divisions:

Ericsson has invested considerable resources in training of our local personnel. Such training ranges from pure technical / product training to advanced programs in management and leadership for our local managers. In accordance with corporate objectives, Ericsson Telecommunications Lanka strives to become a true Sri Lankan operation through the continuous transfer of competence to personnel at all levels and through interaction with other organizations.

Quality journey in Ericsson, Sri Lanka

In 1999, Ericsson Sri Lanka was certified with ISO 9002. Again in September 2001, the organization was re-assessed and certified against ISO 9002:1994 standards by BSI.

In December 2002, our management system was upgraded to ISO 9001:2000 standards and recertified by BSI.

From 2004 onwards under the Ericsson Global ISO 9001:2000 Certification program, Ericsson Sri Lanka is assessed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and certified.

Similarly, Ericsson Sri Lanka is certified for ISO ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System) by DNV.
