Ericsson and other major Operations Support Systems (OSS) providers, are taking the lead on OSS interoperability with a new initiative to enable the use of vendors’ OSS interfaces outside of those defined by standards organizations. To help operators simplify network operations and reduce costs, the companies have agreed to cross-license such OSS interfaces for multi-vendor network management.
IPv6 is a reality. Network technologies, services and support systems are ready for it, with IPv6 device support widely available and operators already deploying IPv6 in their networks.
In recent years, there has been a strong focus on network management simplicity under the device selforganizing networks (SON). A number of SON use cases and features have been and are discussed for 3G Long Term Evolution (LTE). The main SON feature in the first LTE release is methods for automatic configuration of neighbor cell relations – Automatic Neighbor Relations (ANR). In this paper, we describe the neighbor relations management and ANR, and evaluate ANR in a pre-launch, commercially deployed network cluster. The results indicate that ANR configures discovered and needed neighbor relations such that handover can be performed in combination with the neighbor relation establishment without dropping the connection.
Subscribers today are demanding the best possible customer experience. That is why OSS/BSS has become so important for communication service providers. In the first of two articles on OSS/BSS, Ericsson Business Review looks what it takes to turn a good customer experience into a great one.
Sustaining the brand promise has never been more important in maturing markets, where customers have a greater choice of devices, services and applications than ever before and are
consequently more discerning in their selection of mobile service providers. A comprehensive and transformative approach to customer experience management can unlock value across operator networks and product offerings, and positively transform customer relationships.
