User Profile Gateway (UPG) shares user profile information with service and content providers in converged networks while ensuring security and standardization to deliver a personalized service.
This is our implementation of the 3GPP Generic User Profile (GUP) standard, providing the ability to expose a consolidated virtual user profile in different views with control of how the data can be accessed.
Data consolidation, the ability to put the necessary data together across the whole operator organization, is a fundamental pre-requisite for drawing conclusions from the data and leveraging on it as a business asset.
User Profile Gateway (UPG) hides the underlying network complexity from the applications, reducing the complexity in their implementation. It also isolates applications from changes in the network in terms of added, removed or upgraded data repositories. This means that new data can be introduced without affecting the applications.
Providing a single point of access towards applications with multiple access protocols and different identities, data is aggregated from different data sources and transformed into suitable data views for the applications with the necessary access control.
UPG provides a unified way of accessing, managing and transfer static and dynamic user profile data (both service related and user related data), such as data related to personal information, preferences, subscriptions, services, devices, roles or access. Static data is normally set by the provisioning system and rarely changes, while dynamic data is changed frequently.
With UPG handling conversion of protocols and making intelligent evaluations of collected data prior to delivery, new services are implemented quickly and easily. This function also opens up opportunities to create and introduce new services in the network based on existing subscriber profiles and data.
UPG contributes to a personalized experience and facilitates a wider and more colorful/blended service offering. It is a key enabler for delivering the user information necessary for enriched multimedia services by providing a single point of access to all user data.
This product lays a foundation for offering blended services in a service- oriented architecture by combining data from different domains and creating unique services that would otherwise be difficult to achieve. It helps operators retain existing users and attract new ones since a wide range of easy to use, effective and quickly responding services are available.
